This weekend, people who wanted to play blackjack from all over the world, gathered in the convention center at the Ute Mountain Casino, Hotel and Resort, where the final Blackjack Satellite Tournament took place. The convention center was filled-up to the roof, with blackjack players and TV cameras.
The last three World Series of Blackjack 2006 satellite tournaments took place in this convention center. Ute is known for its high quality and exciting tournaments and this tournament wasn't any different. The winner of this tournament would win one of the 40 seats at the World Series of Blackjack 2006 in Vegas and a chance to win here the $500,000 first prize.
The players were anxious to play blackjack, they couldn't wait to reach the tables and start playing their favorite game.
One of the tournament participants, Joe Pane, stated that to play blackjack in such an important tournament at this one is like war. Pane lives in Las Vegas, and is one of the 91 professionals who traveled half a country to play blackjack and win a spot in the World Series of Blackjack 2006.
Unfortunately for Pane, he didn't walk away with the most-wanted seat, but Charles Montoya did. Montoya came from Farmington and won $3,150 and a seat in the World Series of Blackjack.
